Ten weeks before I was due to run this year’s New York Marathon, I developed Plantar Fasciitis and as such was completely unable to get my training miles in. My trainer and I decided to persevere by resting my foot and doing all my training on the TRX, using a number of different strengthening exercises in an aerobic capacity. I – literally – did no running prior to the marathon and am pleased to say that – although at 5 hours and 12 minutes I wasn’t much to worry the African contingent at the front of the race – I ran the whole damn lot with less after-effect soreness than any marathon I’ve completed. The best blend would obviously be a mix of running and TRX, but in this extreme instance I completed a marathon using JUST the TRX as preparation.
